Purpose

Established in 2021 by Barbara Snyderman in memory of her mother, Shirley Snyderman, and her aunt, Eda Snyderman, both of whom inspired her career. Eda was a non-degreed MLT who passed the MT HEW exam on her first attempt. Barbara is an MLT who matriculated into an MLS program. Collectively, the three were known to friends as the “Snyderwomen.”

Goal

To encourage career advancement within the laboratory profession by providing financial assistance to medical laboratory technicians pursuing MLS degrees

Award Benefits

The award recipient shall receive up to $2,000 distributed before or during the fall term of the awarded year. It is renewable if the student continues to demonstrate financial need and continues to meet the criteria. Applicants must be enrolled in an MLS program at the time of application, but may complete their degree before the award is distributed.

Eligible Candidates

Applicants must be ASCLS members and have completed their associate degree in Medical Laboratory Science. Applicants must also be enrolled in a NAACLS approved program to complete their Bachelor of Science in Medical Laboratory Science. Applicant may be in any stage of their program.

Application

The award application will consist of:

  1. Essay
  2. Letter of recommendation from the program director or other faculty member in the MLS program
  3. Statement of financial need

Applications will be blinded for review.

Application deadline is April 1st.

Essay Question (500-word response limit)

Applicant may answer either question or both or combine them into a single 1,000 word or less response.

  2. What are the plans or goals you wish to pursue after attaining your Bachelor of Science degree?
