Meet the Candidates 2023
The ASCLS Nominations Committee is pleased to present the following candidates for office in the 2023-24 Society year. Candidates selected by the House of Delegates will take office during the 2023 ASCLS, AGT & SAFMLS Joint Annual Meeting. Delegates will elect one president-elect; three directors; one 5-year term member for the Judicial Committee; and five 2-year term members for the Nominations Committee. Read more.

800+ Laboratory Professionals Prepare to Gather for ASCLS, AGT & SAFMLS Joint Annual Meeting

The 2023 ASCLS, AGT & SAFMLS Joint Annual Meeting (JAM) kicks off in less than 10 days. Laboratory professionals from all facets of the lab and from around the world will come together to share knowledge, research, and best practices, as well as connect with friends and colleagues in the medical laboratory community. The educational program will provide 60 hours of P.A.C.E.®-approved continuing education, and the meeting will include about 55 industry partners—our highest number yet.
There’s still time to sign up at the late/onsite registration rate.
In-Person Attendance: JAM will be held at the Omni Providence Hotel and Rhode Island Convention Center in Providence, Rhode Island. In addition to the educational program, poster presentations, industry partner exhibits, and networking activities, you’ll also receive access to all recorded JAM educational sessions for 30 days after the event, providing you with about 60 hours of P.A.C.E.®-approved credit.
Virtual Attendance: You will have access to the nearly 60 educational sessions, either streamed live or recorded; industry partner virtual activities; virtual poster presentations; and virtual networking events. You will also have access to all recorded JAM educational sessions for 30 days after the event. You get to choose which sessions and events you want to attend live and which recordings you will view later when the time is right. Create a personalized JAM experience that fits your life.

2023 Laboratory Legislative Symposium
October 23-24 | Alexandria, Virginia
The annual Laboratory Legislative Symposium gives you the chance to travel to Washington, DC, with medical laboratory professionals from six laboratory organizations and make our concerns known inside Congress.
The Legislative Symposium provides a great education on the how-tos of lobbying. Attendees are coached on presentation techniques so they can effectively talk to their congressional representatives during their appointments. They are well received in the congressional offices. Attendees return home from Washington with first-hand knowledge of the political system in action and confidence that they make a difference.
This year’s event will be held October 23-24 at the Hilton Alexandria Old Town in Alexandria, Virginia. In-person and virtual attendee options will be available.
Emerging Laboratory Managers Collaborative Conference (ELMC2)
January 19-20, 2024 | Virtual
The Emerging Laboratory Managers Collaborative Conference (ELMC2) is designed specifically for laboratory professionals to help you transition into and thrive in management roles.
ELMC2 provides two days of virtual programming (live and streamed for up to 30 days after the live event), up to 20 hours of P.A.C.E.® credit, networking events, access to an attendees-only online community, and follow up programming expected to take place 6-12 weeks after the conclusion of the virtual conference, as well as special meet-ups at the Joint Annual Meeting in June.

Classification of New Thyroid Tumors and Impact on Clinical Management
Description: Approximately 50 percent of Americans will develop a thyroid nodule by the time they’re 60 years old. While most are benign, 5 percent are cancerous. This session will provide an overview of recent updates in the classification of thyroid tumors and the impact on clinical management.

Spotlight: Melissa Dumoulin, MBA, MLS(ASCP)CM, Nampa, Idaho
Melissa is the laboratory manager over the Nampa and Fruitland laboratories for St. Luke’s Health System in Idaho and Oregon.
Melissa is a member of the ASCLS national Membership Committee, serving two consecutive appointments from 2017-23 and serving as chair of the committee for three of those six years. She has also served as the ASCLS-Idaho and ASCLS Region VIII membership representative. Melissa additionally has served on the national Marketing and Communications Committee. Within ASCLS-Idaho she has served in several board and officer positions, including Nominations and Elections Committee and Scientific Assembly chair. Additionally, she has served as a member, co-chair, and chair on the ASCLS-Idaho State Convention Planning Committee regularly during her 15 years of membership with ASCLS. Read more.

In the #IamASCLS-Introduce Yourself Community, Taylor recently introduced himself:
“I’m a recently licensed MLT(ASCP), currently serving in the armed forces and stationed in North Carolina. My responsibilities are as a generalist, and those responsibilities differ from most lab professionals in that the majority of my work is performed in field environments rather than a typical clinic or hospital. Moreover, I’m often in a position where I’m the only (and therefore most senior) lab professional in the room.
“I joined ASCLS partly as a professional obligation, but also in the hopes of meeting other lab professionals with field experience (military, NGOs, humanitarian relief efforts, etc). Ideally, I could use this community as a sounding board for the SOPs I expect to draft in the near future.
“On a lighter and more personal note, I have some hobbies I like to tend to on the weekends: usually chess, guitar, and watchmaking. I’m not particularly good at any of them, but I have a good time all the same.” Connect with Taylor.
