Volume 39 Number 3 | June 2025
The ASCLS Nominations Committee is pleased to present the following candidates for office in the 2025-26 Society year. Candidates selected by the House of Delegates will take office during the 2025 ASCLS, AGT & SAFMLS Joint Annual Meeting. Delegates will elect one president-elect; one secretary/treasurer; three 3-year term directors; one 5-year term member for the Judicial Committee; and six 2-year term members for the Nominations Committee.
In an effort to create more touch points between the candidates running for national positions and the members electing them to those positions, the ASCLS Nominations Committee scheduled virtual Meet and Greet and Ask Me Anything (AMA) sessions in April and May to provide an opportunity for members to ask questions of the candidates running for national positions. For members who cannot attend, recordings of the events will be shared.

Why are you interested in this role?
I am near completing my very long stint of being a Developing Professional as a Masters and Doctoral student over the last several years. I now have experience serving on several ASCLS committees at state and national levels, in addition to similar roles with other organizations (NAACLS, ASM, etc). With my resident experience and long standing student status, I would love to share my experiences with others navigating the lab world as students, mid-level technologists, all the way up to senior administrators. I have had the pleasure of working at a variety of institution types and sizes across the southern United States, including rural access hospitals, community medical centers, and large academic medical hubs. I am particularly passionate about advocating for advanced level education (DCLS and others), laboratory utilization, laboratory stewardship, laboratory consumerism (Consumer Response Team), data analytics/research, evidence-based laboratory medicine (EBLM), and all things DEI/IDEA related, as I represent the LGBTQIA+ community. It would be my honor to serve as an ASCLS Director at the pinnacle of my academic endeavors.

It has been my greatest joy to show up to constituent society and regional meetings across the country to provide support and lift up ASCLS members. Why are you interested in this role?
I am interested in serving ASCLS, and even more so as a member of the Nominations Committee, because I believe in what we do. I believe that we are a voice often forgotten and unappreciated, yet we are the heart of the house. The body cannot beat without a pumping/functioning heart, and we are that heart for the MLS profession. I am interested in making a difference, and I am sure you hear that often, but I want to make a difference by connecting people within our profession and healthcare to strive for excellence. To uphold the golden standard, to debunk misconceptions, to unite us with one voice, to be an advocate for our profession and to represent the DEIB community. I am a first generation college student and am half Jamaican/Chinese. I represent the common folk … the non traditional. I worked full time while obtaining my education and at times took care of my family. I represent so many of “us,” the mix races, the old and new generation, the clinical profession and the laboratory (the ones on the front lines and the behind the scenes), the female population, the underserved and much more. I am a chain breaker who says, though it hasn’t been done, doesn’t mean it cannot be done.
Healthcare has had many changes over the past years, but there is one thing that is constant, and that is the work we do and the results we provide. The only way to make change is by connecting with others and living with conviction. This conviction comes from deep within myself and ourselves to serve with action, I like to say passion and purpose. To be constant in providing work of integrity. To teach or invoke these concepts in others with perseverance, determination, and compassion.
My role on the Nominations Committee is to bring others on board who wish to serve the common interests and goals of ASCLS. To make sure that those involved are of one mind. To push us forward with adaptability and finesse.
I was on the nominating committee for my P.E.O. (Philanthropic Educational Organization) Chapter BU this past year, and although many didn’t think that to be the best committee to be on, I was excited for the task. I got the opportunity to reach out and connect with the sisters in the chapter on a personal level and basically ask them how they were. People need to know that we care. The other part of my duties was appointing the next president, chaplin, treasurer, secretary, etc. This task isn’t just about selecting someone or anyone but the best person for the position, as well as being creative in bringing others who might not have served before a chance to be involved. Inspiring them and letting them know they had a team around them they could always lean on. It was listening to them and highlighting their unique skill in a way that could be beneficial to us as a chapter. This would be the same as being a part of ASCLS. A different organization, but in truth, both have a similar end goal and that is to make a difference in our world, whether it is helping women advance in education or representing my profession through acts of advocacy. We need people who are willing to be a trailblazer, and I for sure am one of them.
Me being involved in ASCLS or me being involved in ASCLS Nominations Committee is just the beginning of a legacy that will continue for generations.

Why are you interested in this role?
I am interested in serving on the Nominations Committee for ASCLS because our Society needs strong leadership. Finding high-quality and sufficiently available candidates to run for office is a difficult but important process. In order to enhance diversity and belonging in ASCLS, there must be diverse and suitable candidates who represent all members. An important part is advertising and encouraging qualified volunteers to run for Society offices. It assures all members know the process for applying for office and the opportunities to serve. It begins with encouraging our grassroots members to grow into our national leadership roles and listening to our membership about which members are prepared for leadership. Once candidates are identified, they must be qualified for the position desired. If elected as a Nominations Committee member, I will diligently work to ensure the qualifications of each candidate. I have dedicated my life as a servant leader to our profession and to ASCLS. I have served in most roles at the state level and have served ASCLS at the regional and national levels. I look forward to leveraging my experience to help find solid qualified candidates.

Why are you interested in this role?
I am very interested in the role as an opportunity to serve the organization and network with other professionals. Due to past constraints at work, I have not been as active with ASCLS. I served as the chair and vice chair of the Scientific Assembly in 2014-2018. I also served on other ASCLS committees.
If I am allowed to serve, I will bring my experiences as president and president-elect of the Baptist University Faculty Senate, service on the QEP and Curriculum Committees. I have also served on several search committees during my work experience.
I am currently the secretary of the Tennessee Beta Unit of Parliamentarians. In this capacity, I have served on the Nominating Committee.
My current employer is very open to faculty/chair serving on national committees.
