Why are you interested in this role?
The clinical laboratory is a key component in healthcare and, as a leader, I aim to provide the voice of the medical laboratory professional through education to others within healthcare, to those creating policy, and to the general population. As a director within ASCLS, I want to ensure we retain and recognize our members while growing our membership and fostering new leaders to create a more unified profession. I want those around me to fee the same passion for the profession I experience every day. I have served most of my first term on the Board of Directors and have much work to complete, working with the DCLS Oversight Committee in securing a registry exam with our collaboration with ASCP-BOC. There are policies and procedures which need to be reviewed and ensure their purposes still align with today’s laboratory community. I want to continue to learn and work to provide a place for laboratory professionals to come and engage with each other, and to provide a place where all are welcome to openly participate and provide guidance for the future of the laboratory profession.

Why are you interested in this role?
Over the past nine years, I have been actively involved with ASCLS in various capacities (e.g., student director with Central New England, the ASCLS Board of Directors (BOD) ascending professional director, and most recently the president of CNE). My extensive experience in ASCLS has prepared me to take on the leadership role as director for the ASCLS BOD. As director, I will be an agent for change and effective communication so we as a Society can evolve our practices to provide a robust membership experience for our constituents. In addition, as director, I plan to build upon what has been built before me in order to continue to make ASCLS involvement more accessible to our constituents while keeping diversity, equity, and inclusion principles at the forefront of everything we do. Our ascending professionals and student members are of extreme importance to the health and continuity of our Society. It is critical that we work towards increasing the involvement of these members within the profession, as well as within ASCLS. As director, I plan to create a collaborative environment where every voice and opinion is valued and heard so that together we can drive positive change within the Society and the profession.

Why are you interested in this role?
This career of medical laboratory science isn’t my first rodeo, and when I joined ASCLS, it was simply because I recognized the value of membership in professional organizations. I never even imagined how important this group would become to me. I want the opportunity to be a voice on the Board of Directors for all of the members and to push us to be better. As an organization, we need to continue growing while retaining the members we already have, which means consistently advocating for the profession and demonstrating the benefits of membership. We talk a lot about how there is power in numbers, which is why it is crucial that we be as inclusive as possible, to encourage all laboratory professionals to join us. If elected as a director, I truly believe I can work with the Board to both address ASCLS’ shortcomings and elevate what we are already doing well.

I am interested in running for a position on the American Society for Clinical Laboratory Science (ASCLS) Board of Directors because I am interested in enhancing my leadership skills in such a great organization as ASCLS while helping to develop others within the organization. I have been with the ASCLS organization since the early 1990s when it was previously called the American Society for Medical Technology (ASMT) to now, the American Society for Clinical Laboratory Science (ASCLS). Why are you interested in this role?
I am interested in a position on the ASCLS Board of Directors to share the mission and vision of ASCLS. I want to work to continue to move ASCLS forward and continue to make us relevant for laboratory professionals, educators, and students. I currently work in what’s known as the Fox Valley—a group of small to medium size towns, which together is one of the larger metropolitan areas in Wisconsin. We are not quite rural, not quite urban, giving me a unique perspective. My current roles are that of lead MLS at LabCorp; part time bench tech, part time supervisor; and adjunct instructor at Fox Valley Technical College; where I teach in the phlebotomy, MLT, and Medical Assistant programs. I have been a member of ASCLS for over 15 years and have volunteered at the state and region level. I look forward to volunteering more in the future and thank you for considering me for a position on the Board.

Why are you interested in this role?
With all the changes being made to keep ASCLS viable in a changing world, the role of Judicial Committee will continue to be an essential position. A member of the Judicial Committee must be knowledgeable in many different areas of the Society. I feel I would be an ideal member because of my many different activities within the Society. I have previously served six years on the Board of Directors as Region VI director and six years on Government Affairs Committee. I have been involved with bylaws on the constituent level, I now serve as chair of this committee and have recently rewritten the state bylaws and SOPs to completely change the board and committee structure. During this rewrite I became very familiar with the national bylaws and SOPs and all the changes being made in this document.

I was also part of the House of Delegate that voted to change the structure of the ASCLS Board. I was very skeptical of this move and voted against it at the time. However, I am committed to make this new structure work. I also feel the Society and new Board have much still to do to clarify how this will work. The Judicial Committee can play an important part in the future of ASCLS.

Why are you interested in this role?
As a newly minted Doctor of Clinical Laboratory Science (DCLS), I desire to become more involved in the organization that has supported laboratory professionals such as myself. I have received undergraduate and graduate ASCLS scholarships during my academic journey in laboratory science, and I have seen the value of membership as a practicing bench scientist. In fact, I distinctly remember that my MLS program director, who was active in various state leadership roles, very strongly encouraged us as students to join and maintain membership with ASCLS, and I have done just that ever since. I attended my first state meeting as a student and loved the professional education sessions, which reminded me of the enthusiasm I found and enjoyed in previously attended research conferences. I have always especially appreciated ASCLS’ contributions to continuing education, professionalism, and promoting visibility of the laboratory professional. As such, my favorite ASCLS activities remain state and national meetings and publications such as ASCLS Today and CLS Journal. I believe in the mission of ASCLS and am excited to take up my part in future roles.

Why are you interested in this role?
I was previously involved with ASCLS on multiple levels, but had to step back a bit in 2022 due to other obligations. Since then, I have found that I miss the people and networking of ASCLS, as well as the opportunity to serve our profession. As such, now that I am back in a position to devote time and effort, I recently began looking for ways to re-engage in ASCLS. During that process I came across the ASCLS Nominations Committee vacancy and became instantly interested. The Nominations Committee offers a chance for me to reconnect and expand networking circles within the ASCLS community, while also being able to help others find meaningful opportunities to serve ASCLS in their own way … a win-win situation! I am excited about this possibility, and would bring energy and commitment to the position if elected.

Why are you interested in this role?
I believe the role of the ASCLS Nominations Committee is to seek out candidates who will be able to fill a role and to be creative in their process for finding these potential nominees. I believe many members have talents and skills that may not be the most loud, popular, or obvious choice but have so much to contribute to our Society given the opportunity or the ask. I believe this starts with reaching out to members who may not have served in these roles before but may offer a unique perspective or skill set that can benefit the Society. I believe diverse representation makes our ideas and perspectives stronger, and I would be honored to contribute to pursuing candidates who will make our Society better through actively pursuing candidates that can promote increased diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Why are you interested in this role?
I have really enjoyed my time on the nominations committee and believe that finding the right candidates to lead this organization moving forward is vital to its success. I have learned a lot about the passion our candidates hold, and it inspires me to bring that passion back home.

I also believe that being on this team has given me a much larger understanding as to the direction our members see ASCLS growing and to help this vision by selecting those individuals allows me to feel that I am making a positive impact on the organization.

The one constant in my career has been participation in ASCLS and to do that on a national level has been an incredible experience, and I would gladly take on another term on this committee to continue that experience.
