Share Your Perspectives with the Department of Labor
The O*NET Data Collection Program, sponsored by the U.S. Department of Labor, is seeking experts for Medical Scientists, Except Epidemiologists.
ASCLS is strongly encouraging the participation of medical laboratory professionals with at least five years of experience in this important effort.
O*NET, the nation’s leading source of occupational information, provides free, detailed data covering over 55,000 jobs used by counselors, human resource professionals, veterans, researchers, developers, students, and others.

O*NET is conducting research that will help define the definitions of medical laboratory professionals. A random sample of respondents will be invited to complete an online questionnaire. Participants will receive a $75 token of appreciation upon submission, redeemable as a gift card or charitable donation.

2026 Labvocate Symposium

The annual Labvocate Symposium gives you the chance to come together with medical laboratory professionals from six laboratory organizations and make our concerns known inside Congress.
The Labvocate Symposium provides a great education on the how-tos of lobbying. You are coached on presentation techniques so you can effectively talk to your congressional representatives during appointments. You’ll also learn all the important details about the legislative policies affecting our profession so you can labvocate with confidence.
After 10 years of hard work, you may finally get to see your actions become law! There is a window this year to pass the Results Act, which provides a solution to the often delayed and broken Protecting Access to Medicare Act of 2014 (PAMA). Fixing Medicare reimbursement will help ease the pressure many clinical laboratories are feeling when it comes to staffing resources.
We’ll also build momentum for the Medical Laboratory Personnel Shortage Relief Act.
Again this year, all ASCLS Developing Professional members can attend Labvocate 2026 virtually at no cost. The Clinical Laboratory Educators Forum has developed a sample curriculum for educators who want to leverage this opportunity for their students.
The event is held at the Hilton Alexandria Old Town in Alexandria, Virginia. In-person and virtual attendee options are available.
2026 Emerging Laboratory Managers Collaborative Conference (ELMC2)
November 13-14 | Virtual
The Emerging Laboratory Managers Collaborative Conference (ELMC2) is designed specifically for medical laboratory professionals to help you prepare for and thrive in management roles.
ELMC2 provides two days of virtual programming (live and streamed for up to 30 days after the live event), up to 20 hours of P.A.C.E.® credit, networking events, access to an attendees-only online community, and follow up programming expected to take place 6-12 weeks after the conclusion of the virtual conference, as well as special meet-ups at the ASCLS, AGT & SAFMLS Joint Annual Meeting next June.

New DCLS Symposium

ASCLS is excited to offer a new fully virtual, two-day event for educators, employers, and medical laboratory professionals interested in the Doctorate in Clinical Laboratory Science (DCLS).
This dynamic program will explore career pathways, research, and the evolving role of DCLS professionals through expert panels, keynote presentations, and interactive sessions designed to advance the future of laboratory medicine.

Doctorate in Clinical Laboratory Science (DCLS) Repository
The ASCLS DCLS Advancement Committee is building a Doctorate in Clinical Laboratory Science (DCLS) Repository, a centralized database that houses scholarly work produced by or in regards to DCLS professionals. It serves as a resource for individuals seeking to learn more about the DCLS role, including scope of practice, professional contributions, and scholarly activities.
The purpose of this repository is to collect, organize, and showcase the scholarly output of DCLS professionals, providing insight into their impact on the clinical laboratory and patient care. By bringing this work together in one place, the repository aims to increase visibility, support knowledge sharing, and highlight the evolving contributions of the DCLS profession.
If you are a DCLS student or graduate with completed formal presentations at state or national meetings, interviews or podcast appearances, publications or abstracts, or posters, we encourage you to contribute your work to this growing collection. The repository may also be shared with non‑member DCLS professionals. And if you’ve come across a standout paper or presentation authored by, focused on, or historically relevant to the DCLS role, please consider submitting those as well to help capture the full breadth of impact.
2026 LabJAM Highlights a Week of Learning, Leadership, and Connection
ASCLS, the Association of Genetic Technologists (AGT), and the Society of American Federal Medical Laboratory Scientists (SAFMLS) held their sixth Joint Annual Meeting (JAM), both in-person and virtually. This year’s event, held June 28-July 2, included 740 registered attendees; 573 were in St. Louis, and 167 attended online. The event also included 50 industry partner exhibitors, 49 educational sessions, one pre-conference workshop, 68 speakers, and 20 poster presentations.

Additional highlights include:
- The Developing Professionals Forum held the fourth annual Race to JAM Trivia Contest in the spring. Northern Illinois University and UC Davis Health went head-to-head in the finals at JAM. Congratulations to this year’s winner, Northern Illinois University!
- The ASCLS Awards Ceremony honored 56 award winners, 41 scholarship recipients, 21 50-year members, and one 60-year member.
- The ASCLS Education & Research (E&R) Fund Silent Auction and related activities raised about $4,800, allowing the E&R Fund to provide scholarships for medical laboratory students and research grants.
- Region VIII won the ASCLS Political Action Committee (PAC) donation contest this year with $2,648 in total donations.
- The ASCLS House of Delegates voted to approve a Bylaws amendment that states ASCLS regions may create Regional Councils instead of regions shall have Regional Councils. They also voted to approve the ASCLS Health Equity Position Paper.
