Dr. Rebecca Pope-RuarkThe 2025 CLEC Steering Committee is excited to announce the 2025 Clinical Laboratory Educators Conference (CLEC) Closing Keynote will feature Rebecca Pope-Ruark, PhD, of Georgia Institute of Technology, and her presentation, Unraveling Faculty Burnout: Strategies for Well-Being and Vitality on Saturday, March 8, at 11 am Eastern.

On many campuses, the mental health and well-being of students is a top priority. But what about faculty and staff? In this interactive keynote, we’ll examine the definition of burnout, learn about the characteristics and consequences of burnout experiences, and examine a framework for faculty vitality to glean strategies to directly address faculty well-being.

Dr. Pope-Ruark believes that personal well-being and professional vitality is more important than productivity, but also that creating our most meaningful work and connecting with others keeps us vital. She cares deeply about normalizing discussion of burnout in higher education without normalizing the culture that causes it.

She is the director of the Office of Faculty Professional Development at Georgia Institute of Technology and was previously a tenured professor with 17 years of experience teaching undergraduates. She is also author of, Unraveling Faculty Burnout: Pathways to Reckoning and Renewal, Johns Hopkins University Press, 2022.
